Ethiopia: Shints Under Expansion

Equipped with high tech machinery SHINTS entered European market within a short period of time with the production of outdoor and motorcycle apparels.

 
A Korean-based SHINTS ETP Garment PLC that penetrated the European market within a short period of time announced plan to undertake expansion work. The factory marked its first anniversary yesterday.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Industry State Minister Tadesse Haile noted that having gained promising results in GTP I, the government of Ethiopia has given special priority to the manufacturing sector in GTP II.
 
"An internationally well known textile company like SHINTS would play a pivotal role in improving the textile export earning of the country and transferring knowledge and skill to citizens working in such sector," he added.
 
According to Tadesse, taking advantage of the conducive investment climate in the country and putting great trust on the Ethiopian government, equipped with high tech machinery SHINTS entered European market within a short period of time with the production of outdoor and motorcycle apparels.
 
Citing some of the attracting factors to the overseas investors, Tadesse said that abundant easily trainable labour force, less cost power supply, the availability of huge market, among others.
 
Company Chief Executive Mr. Cha said that the company works on three pillars that are giving hope to the employees, meeting buyers demand and playing a significant role in the development of Ethiopia.
 
Talking about the present and the future plan of the factory, he said that SHINTS has already created job opportunities for 1,500 people and earned 3 million USD last year alone. "After completing the expansion work, around 4,800 and 12,000 workers will be employed in 2016 and 2017 respectively," he added.
 
By the end of 2019, the factory plans to create job opportunities for about 20,000 Ethiopians. Moreover, it plans to build dormitories for its employees.
 
Located at Bole Lemi Industry Park, the factory expects to earn 15 million USD this fiscal year.
